The technique of Soil Stabilisation
centres on the treatment of marginal or unsuitable materials
to render them suitable for further use as engineering materials.
The application of additives such as Quick Lime, PFA, GGBS,
and Ordinary Portland Cement can improve the qualities of
the material to achieve specifications suitable for use as
bulk fill, capping and sub-base. This use of materials already
on site reduces the import of aggregate, the export of unsuitable
materials and reduces the time required to complete the earthworks.
Specialist equipment is needed to spread and incorporate the
binder.
Continental offers two types of stabilisation drum for mounting
behind todays high performance tractor units. Namely
the fixed chamber MGM and the unique variable chamber GM.
With the GM offering similar performance benefits to self
propelled units albeit at a far lower capital cost with greater
unit adaptability. With an ever increasing acceptance of Soil
Stabilisation these units are now forming the back bone to
many ground improvement fleets.
The adaptability of the tractor
mounted drum means that within minutes the power unit can
be detached from the mixer and coupled up to alternate machinery,
anything from a dump trailer to a laser trimmer - Importantly
ensuring that utilisation is up and unit costs are down without
sacrifising performance.
